Tara Thorne is a recovering journalist and the writer-director of Compulsus, a Telefilm Talent to Watch feature about a lesbian vigilante who takes vengeance against her community of abusive men. After an international festival run including Inside Out (Toronto), Fantasia (Montreal), Popcorn Frights (Miami), the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, Sunny Bunny (Kiev), and the Sydney Underground Film Festival (Australia), it had a theatrical run in Canadian theatres in the fall of 2024 via Vortex Media, and is available on demand in North America, the UK, and Australia. Tara is currently on the festival circuit with Lakeview, an ensemble comedy of queer women gathering for a cottage weekend to celebrate their friend’s divorce. After a sold-out hometown premiere at AIFF, it has so far travelled to Australia, the Netherlands, England, and Italy. Tara lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she also works as a contract arts worker with the likes of the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, WIFT-Atlantic, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and Screen Nova Scotia.
