Before relocating from Vancouver to Toronto, Michaelin taught documentary filmmaking at the not-for-profit film school Pull Focus. While there, she produced UNLOCKING THE GATES – a short documentary about some of the challenges former women prisoners encounter. But the highlight of that experience was the production of two short dramas– SHAKY LARRY & STRAIGHT AT THE GATE. Coming together in a workshop environment and with the help of seasoned screenwriters, the former inmates’ anecdotes about life inside and out of the Canadian prison system formed the spine for the dramas; and the women became the crew and actors.
Presently, Michaelin is developing the historical travel series LADY TRIPPER; and she sits on the board of POV – the only Canadian magazine dedicated to the art and business of documentary film. She is an alumna of the WIDC program in Banff.
