Kim arrived in the UK from her home country Canada in 2002 and, via a degree in architecture, launched herself into directing in 2007. Her previous shorts Dragonfly, Edward’s Turmoil and Albatross supported by Film London and the UK Film Council, have won awards at Encounters, British Independent and Brussels film festivals. Her films have competed at festivals from Encounters to Brest, BFI London Film Festival and the BFI’s ‘Upshot’ programme, showcasing the most exciting emerging UK filmmaking talent, as well as finding international distribution with Canal+. Kim also directs music videos and commercials for the likes of New Era, Mars and Skittles and was a finalist for the Kinsale Shark New Director award. Her 4th short film, The Purple Plain, inspired by the Mercury 13 had its worldwide premier at the BFI London Film Festival 2016. She is an alumna of Women In the Director’s Chair (WIDC) Story & Leadership 2019-20 and the 2020 recipient of the WIDC Feature FIlm Award and the CBC Films WIDC Talent Development Award for her debut feature film, With Love and a Major Organ which has been funded by Telefilm Canada and is scheduled to go to production in fall 2021.
