Brianna Russell is a queer screenwriter and director splitting her time between Newfoundland and Toronto. With a focus on the thriller genre and historical period pieces, Brianna’s work has premiered at national and international film festivals, including the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, NFFTY, and FOGFEST. Brianna is the 2022 recipient of the RBC Michelle Jackson Emerging Filmmakers Award for her concept short Poster Child which premiered at the 2023 Closing Gala of the St John’s International Women’s Film Festival. Her feature film script of the same name placed as a Quarter Finalist in the Outstanding Screenplays Feature Competition 2021. Brianna is an alumna of the WIDC CAM and the 2024 Whistler Film Festival Screenwriter Lab.
