Before moving towards her passion: writing and directing Alana worked on the New York indie scene, and cut her teeth in Montreal’s film industry working as a location manager and scout with internationally renowned directors such as: Steven Spielberg, Denys Arcand, Frank Oz, Todd Haynes & François Girard.
Alana’s work includes the musical comedy The Perfect Vacuum (with opera star Natalie Choquette) for BravoFACT and Julia Julep which won Indie Spirit Award at The Canadian Filmmakers Festival.
Alana is an alumna of the Women In the Director’s Chair Workshop under the mentorship of Lea Pool, the Toronto International Film Festival’s Talent Lab, and she was selected for Telefilm’s Feature It! program where she developed her feature script A Good Enough Mother. Other projects in development include the feature follow up to her award winning short, When Erma Made Herman: Erma Invents The Love Machine as well as The Mystique of Lost Ladies.
Her other directing work includes the CBC-WTN series on female Olympic athletes, Women Warriors, and the short film Room Tones.
Alana is exhilarated by the energy of collaboration and excited by stories filled with invention, wonder and a healthy dose of the absurd. She is developing a children’s book and a graphic novel.
