About

Toronto-based artist Chris Ross began her career as an award-winning painter, exhibiting her work across Canada, before moving into filmmaking as a writer/director. The recipient of a screenwriting grant from the Canada Council, Chris has written and directed half a dozen short films. In 2016, she directed Acting Up, which won ‘Best Comedy’ at the Toronto International Short Film Festival. Chris has also worked as an assistant director on many different films and TV shows, and uses this valuable production experience to inform her own work. Most recently, Chris wrote and directed the short Friends on Facebook about a new aspect of relationships, and she’s busy developing her first feature – Busy, with Clique Pictures and LoCo Motion Pictures. This project was a finalist at Telefilm’s Pitch This! at TIFF last year, where Chris presented alongside producers Lauren Grant and Lauren Corber. Chris is a proud member of the DGC, the female film collective Film Fatales, and a WIDC alumna.
