About

Prior to her dramatic short, A Kindness, she directed and produced the short romantic comedy The Exit, which received a Gold Remi at WorldFest-Houston, and screened at numerous film festivals including the CFC’s Worldwide Short Film Festival and Palm Springs ShortsFest. Earlier shorts Jane directed and produced include At the Lake (VIFF, AFF, Local Heroes, CBC Broadcast) and Letter from Francis (VIFF, AFF, Local Heroes, Global Broadcast, Gemini for Best Short Dramatic Program).

Jane has also directed a television movie, Coming of Age (two Geminis for performance and a Gemini nomination for Best Television Movie), and over fifty hours of dramatic series (Gemini for Best Direction in a Dramatic Series for Madison).

Jane was invited to attend the NSI’s Drama Lab and Features First Programs as a director, the CFC as a producer resident, the Banff Television Festival with a CTV Fellowship, and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s National Director Apprenticeship program.

She completed six years as advisor to NSI’s Drama Prize program and her first year as adjunct professor in Sheridan College’s Advanced Television and Film Post Graduate Certificate Program. Jane oversaw the DGC’s first strategic planning process. She’s a founding member of WIFT-T and an advocate for women in the industry. She has ensured that the accomplishments of women are acknowledged through initiatives such as naming of the Barbara Sears Editorial Research Gemini Award and the presentation of the ACCT’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Dorothy Gardner, the first award ever given by the Academy to a casting director.

Jane is a WIDC Banff alumna and served as an alumnae representative on the Board of Directors of WIDC’s nonprofit society, Creative Women Workshops Association (CWWA).
